Peace is on the march. Amidst violence and injustice, people the world over are calling for peace in increasing numbers. Some have called this “The Movement With No Name” or “The Great Turning,” millions strong.

Peace is being redefined. Peace means far more than the absence of war. As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, it means “the presence of justice,” of democracy, of right relationship among individuals, communities, nations, and the Earth.

Peace is being put to action. Peace is not just something we “have.” Peace is something we earn, often through struggle. People everywhere are looking for the tools to do this work effectively. Around the globe, they are building peace with the “toolbox” of nonviolent action.

Interaction: Sharing ideas
What is Peace? What can we do, as individuals and groups, to lay the foundations of peace? Envision Peace Museum wants to hear from you because conversation is where change begins.

How can we overcome injustice without violence and war? Are there effective, nonviolent responses to terrorism? What are the relationships between peace and the environment, between justice and our lifestyle choices, between progress and social movements?

These and other questions are crucial to building a peaceful, just, and humane world. One of the goals of the Museum is to get us all talking and listening to one another about this topic so crucial to our individual lives, our communities, and our world.

And the Museum also wants to ask: What do you think Envision Peace Museum should be doing to advance the cause of peace? What kind of peace museum would you want to visit – more than once?

Inspiration: Drawing strength
We draw strength and determination from others’ stories where violence and retribution have been rejected as people struggle to create change.

History is rich with success stories of individuals and movements, well-known and hidden away, who have used nonviolent action to effectively:
  • respond to attacks on their persons or communities
  • protect their families
  • defend the environment
  • struggle for justice and democracy
  • stand up for the marginalized
  • bring an end to war
A key mission of Envision Peace Museum is to uncover, preserve, and disseminate these stories in dynamic exhibit media.

Education: Being transformed
